It's with sadness that during the past 14 months the Club have lost some of its members, during the AGM a minutes silence was observed in remembrance:
Awards of Honour
An Award of Honour is given in recognition for a minimum of 25 years active service in sport at a club, school, regional and/or national level. During the AGM the following club members recognised for their contributions, they became the 10th, 11th and 12th members to be recognised, it's believed there is no other club in Wales who have had so many members recognised at this level:
Ian Robinson, Club Coach. Ian is one of the top throws in the UK, who has coached many, including Sabrina who has won Paralympic and World Gold medals as well as numerous world records. Ian won the Award of Merit in 2018. Congratulations! (Award of Honour will be presented at the North Wales Indoor Championships in January by his request).
Charles Ashley - Fell Running Secretary. Charles is the clubs first ever fell secretary and to have been awarded the Award of Merit 2011. He is known for his talent in selfie and group photos as well as his art and over the years has been the race organiser of several fell races for the club. (Award to be presented at the North Wales Cross Country League presentation in February, per his request).
The clubs third recipient Reg Burke is no longer with us, having passed away on 6th December 2024. Marilyn Burke and Lisha Dawson were at the Club AGM to receive the posthumous Award of Honour on his behalf. Reg was a coach and Team Manager for many, many years, managing the Women’s Team at their peak when they were winning the Welsh T&F League and doing so well in the GRE Cup. As well as being a coach, Reg was a committee member and from 2018 – 2023 served as the Club’s President. He was made a Club Life Member in 2008 and received the Merit Award in 2011. Reg also was recognised by Welsh Athletics as Coach of the Year (Development) in 2006.
Welsh Athletics Meritorious Award
The Meritorious Award is in recognition of a minimum of 15 years active service in sport at club, school, regional and/or national level. Tonight, Mike Robbins will become the 21st Club Member to be recognized for this award.
Mike Robbins - Becomes the 21st Club Member to receive this award. Mike is an athlete, coach, official and Membership Secretary, who sits on the committee. He leads coaching for the endurance group at the Club. He has also been Cross Country Captain since 2001 and was a member of the very successful Masters Team winning many British and Welsh titles. A Welsh Masters International. Mike is a great ambassador for Wrexham and deservedly receives the Meritorious Award.
